Five new members joined the church in May:
Elizabeth Dohrer – Elizabeth is a Utah native. In addition to being Gary’s wife and the mother of the lovely Katie and Maddie, she is the mother of a 25-year-old daughter, Emily, and the grandmother of 7-year-old Hannah. She was the first in her family to attend college, and she holds degrees in accounting and English, both from Weber State University. She currently teaches English as a Second Language.
Gary Dohrer – Gary was born in Wichita, Kan. He married Elizabeth in 2009, and he adopted Katie and Maddie in 2010. Since then, he has spent most of his time learning about how to be a good father and husband. He has taught English at Weber State University for 23 years, where he is also the Director of the Wasatch Range Writing Project.
Steven Ford – Steve was born in Ogden on Willard Court, a small alley off 28th Street. His parent met working at “2nd Street” during the Second World War. He graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in art. He then attended graduate school at Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles and the School for International Training in Brattleboro, Vt. His first full-time job was in Mexico City. He has lived and worked in Brazil, Germany, Texas, San Francisco, L.A., and New York. He has two daughters, 32 and 33, who live in L.A. and both work in the movie industry. His wife, Eleanor, ran a food photography studio in New York City for 20 years. He and Eleanor moved to Ogden from Redding, Conn., in 2005.
Kevin McCloskey – Kevin was born in Harrisburg, Pa., and moved to Utah at the age of 12. He now lives in South Ogden. He graduated from Westminster College with a degree in religion. He retired in May after 33 years of employment with the U.S. Air Force. He sells real estate, and is partnered with Mike Talbot.
Mike Talbot – Mike was born in Texas and moved to Utah in 2001. Until March of this year, he lived in Provo, where he attended the UCC church and recently served as vice moderator of the congregation. He moved to South Ogden three months ago and lives with his partner, Kevin McCloskey. Mike used to ride bulls on the rodeo circuit, and he is the registrar for the our UCC Intermountain Association.
