Weber State University will provide Safe Zone Training from 9:00 to 11:00 AM on Saturday, Nov. 22, at First United Methodist Church, 1339 W. 400 N., Marriott-Slaterville.
This topic of creating a safe zone for LGBT persons is relevant for our churches and our need to be hospitable and safe places. It is also relevant to our church members right before Thanksgiving and the holiday season when extended families get together and all kinds of family issues arise.
Here is a description of the Safe Zone Training from WSU presenter Karlee Berezay: Participants in the LGBT Resource Center Safe Zone Training can expect to be provided with basic information about the LGBT Community including topics such as sexuality, gender identity and expression, terminology, homophobia, heterosexism and ally development. Each session is taught in a safe environment, open to all questions and concerns about the LGBT community. The interactive and discussion-based experience will give participants the tools to be an effective ally for someone who identifies as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or queer.
