Family Promise of Ogden is up and running and open for business! It took two long years of hard work to get to this point and we’re already serving one family with many more to come. The churches that already have hosted a family overnight are overjoyed with the results and the interactions. It will be our turn soon. We are partnering with the Unitarian Universalist Church of Ogden from Saturday, July 1, through Sunday, July 9. The family or families will be staying overnight at the Unitarian Church. We (along with the Ogden Community of Christ Church) will send volunteers to make dinner, provide food for breakfast and lunch, interact with the guests and stay overnight. This will be our first hosting gig, and we will have one once every quarter.
HOW TO GET INVOLVED
DINNERS: Cook and serve dinner at the Unitarian Church at 5 p.m. on one of the hosting evenings. Do it as an individual, or a family, or pair up with someone else in the church.
OTHER MEALS: Provide the food for cold breakfast (cereal, milk, bagels, that sort of thing) or lunch (bread, meats, cheeses, fruits, carrot sticks, etc.). The families make their own.
HOSTS: Interact with the families in the early evening, or sleep over for a night as one of the two overnight hosts.
DAY CENTER: The Day Center needs volunteers to answer phones, do filing and paperwork, teach skills and monitor the place, especially on the weekends.
UNDERWEAR: The Day Center is in great need of underwear – all sizes, men’s, women’s and children’s. Bring it to church and we’ll take it over there.
