What a summer!

The people of CUCC enjoyed a summer of sabbath, fun and fellowship.

In worship we welcomed pianist Mike Russell, who helped us recognize the musical and improvisational nature of God’s creative power. We also looked into some of the mysteries of our faith, and how we, as children of God, fit into a reality that is bigger than ourselves. Way back on Memorial Day weekend, we blessed our animal friends in an outdoor worship service that concluded with a potluck picnic.

We worshiped outside one other time – with the Unitarian Universalist Church of Ogden and the Community of Christ Church of Ogden – at a local park on Independence Day weekend. That week we teamed up with those same churches to host several families in the Family Promise of Ogden program. We hosted one other week, too, in August. Thanks to Marty Mayo and Carolyn Somer for being our Family Promise coordinators!

Our mission and ministries didn’t go completely dormant in the summer months. In addition to Family Promise, we continued to serve meals once a month to the youth of Outreach Utah. We also strutted our stuff at the Ogden Pride Festival. Thanks to Rachel Hodgdon and Andy Nielsen for organizing our booth!

We enjoyed one another’s company at our Lunch Bunch meetings at Taggert’s in Morgan and the Shooting Star Saloon in Huntsville. Many of us gathered at the home of Marty Mayo and Marion Horna in Eden for a late-summer “Pickin’ Picnic” with music led by Dan and Dotty Steimke and Arlene Szalay. Thank you! In July, we picnicked and camped out at North Fork Park. Thanks to Tom Szalay for organizing that outing.

Back in June, Slim Jolley represented CUCC at the Rocky Mountain Conference Annual Celebration in Cheyenne, Wyoming, where she and Pastor Gage connected with other UCCers from Colorado, Wyoming and Utah. Thanks, Slim!

Finally, our children had a fantastic time in our revamped Vacation Faith School program. For one Saturday each month, they gathered to learn Bible stories that illustrated the importance of water. They played games; made crafts; and visited a pond and a river. We visited the Ogden Nature Center in August. Thanks to Susan Smith for organizing and leading the sessions.
