Family Promise is a nationwide, nonprofit organization with 185 affiliates in 42 states. It enables faith communities and volunteers to provide shelter, meals and compassionate assistance for homeless families with children. Families often stay in the program from one to three months and they transition into stable solutions. By uniting 10 to 13 congregations, plus a day center and social service agencies, Family Promise can provide stability and security to families in dire need of assistance.
Nancy Davis Broderick, who is leading the effort, reports that the goal is to open the doors of Family Promise Ogden by July or August. The focus moving forward is getting the organization’s name out into the community and fund-raising.
Our church’s Board of Deacons decided last year that our facilities are not suitable to host families on site, but we have offered our volunteer assistance to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Ogden. The Unitarians are still considering whether to participate.
