Hello, Friends.
We made it! Mission:1 – 11/11/11 – an eleven-day campaign to address hunger and food-related injustice. So that we may all be 1!
Here’s what we accomplished at our little church:
* Donated 296 items of food to local food banks.
* Fed 350 guests and 140 volunteers at our free community dinner. Thanks to Kim Harbath for organizing, and to all the volunteers who made it possible!
* Sent enough food to two local homeless shelters to feed another 300 people.
* Collected 56.91 in coins – 1,141 pennies, 88 nickels, 136 dimes, 69 quarters, and 6 dollars – to go toward famine relief in East Africa.
* Collected $50 in fasting “fees” and fasted in 11-hour shifts. Thanks to all who fasted!
* Served dinner to clients at the Ogden Rescue Mission. Eighteen members of the church showed up to help last night and many eyes were opened to the services that the mission provides, as well as to the level of need in our community. Thanks to Dotty Steimke for organizing!
* Collected food in our neighborhoods to be taken to food shelters. Thanks to Ruth Geisler for organizing!
* Bolstered our frozen-meal stocks with “stone stew” made from leftovers in the church refrigerator. Thanks to Carolyn Somer and Ruth Geisler!
* Wrote 20 letters to our U.S. senators and representatives demanding that feeding people be a top priority of our government.
* Donated a total of $356.91 (including the coins and the fasting fees) to the national UCC for efforts related to food justice and to address the famine in East Africa.
* Had a great time doing it!
Congratulations, and thank you.
Here’s how the national UCC’s goals stand this morning:
* The goal of 1,000,000 items of healthy food EXCEEDED!
* The goal of 11,111 letters to Congress EXCEEDED!
* The goal of $111,111 for Neighbors in Need hunger-related ministries still needs several thousand dollars to make it.
* The goal of $111,111 for East Africa famine relief still needs several thousand dollars to make it.

Finally, let us pray…
Loving God, thank you for this opportunity to make a difference and to be the change we need in the world. Bless those who still hunger, for nourishment and for justice. May we keep building the Kingdom of God here on earth. Amen.
